G56’s are very strong transmissions but many of them are reaching a couple hundred thousand miles at this point- metal fatigue is definitely a real thing, and it unfortunately claims many 3rd and 4th gears. Most 3rd gears you’ll find on the market are the poor quality Chinese remanufactured parts sold and distributed by Allstate gear. We whole-heartedly reject these parts for use in our G56’s and instead have chosen to directly import high quality 3rd gears from the European Mercedes aftermarket. While obviously a higher cost, the quality and strength are a substantial jump over the Allstate option resold by all the major vendors. To my knowledge, LRG is the only stateside company selling these Italian gears. We also are periodically able to source new Mopar OEM 3rd gears, and if ordered you may receive either option, both of which are extremely good gears. They are worth the investment if you care about your transmission.
