What does Long Range Gear work on?

Answer

We specialize in repairing, remanufacturing, and enhancing a select group of manual diesel transmissions and their associated transfer cases. Our expertise includes:

  • New Venture (NV): NV4500, NV5600
  • G56 (Dodge 6-speed)
  • ZF5 & ZF6 (Ford manual transmissions)

We do not work on automatic transmissions and only handle differentials on a case-by-case basis.

Do you offer shipping?

Answer

Yes, we can arrange freight shipping both to and from your location (or a nearby terminal). We’ll provide an estimated shipping quote to send your transmission to us. However, the return shipping cost will be determined once your transmission is ready. In most cases, this cost remains close to the initial shipping estimate.

Do you sell parts?

Answer

Yes! Our online store carries a selection of Valair clutch kits, transmission components, and hard-to-find parts. We are actively expanding our inventory, so check back frequently for new additions.

What transmission fluid do you recommend?

Answer

The right transmission fluid is essential for performance, longevity, and smooth shifting. We recommend the following fluids based on your transmission type:

  • NV4500: Redline MT-85 is really the only fluid we recommend for the NV4500, however any synchromesh fluid will work without causing damage to the transmission.
  • NV5600: Any Synchromesh fluid- we prefer the Redline MTL or Amsoil Synchromesh, but Pennzoil or Valvoline Synchromesh work excellent as well for a budget option.
  • G56: DO NOT USE ANY 50WT OILS IN YOUR G56 TRANSMISSION. We prefer Redline MTL or Amsoil Synchromesh, but Pennzoil or Valvoline Synchromesh work excellent for a budget option.
  • ZF5 & ZF6: Any Synchromesh fluid. No other gear oil.
  • Getrag G360: Any Synchromesh Fluid. No other gear oil.

Do you offer core exchanges?

Answer

Yes, we offer core exchanges for select transmissions. We firmly believe that core swapping is a poor value for the customer and ourselves and we try to avoid this approach. Rebuilding your transmission and returning it to you is our preferred method. Contact us to discuss availability, core requirements, and pricing.

Can you build a transmission for high-horsepower or heavy towing applications?

Answer

Absolutely. We offer performance upgrades tailored for high-horsepower diesel trucks, heavy-duty towing, and off-road applications. Options include upgraded input shafts, heavy-duty synchronizers, PTO coolers, and reinforced cases, along with using only the highest quality components available. Let us know your truck’s setup, and we’ll build a transmission that meets your needs.
